Let them eat Cake
Every year in a large commerical plaza in lower Manhattan there is a food fair showcasing 50 restaurants. It is held in the open air and tented booths are set up for the food vendors along with a backround of Jazz muscians belting out great sounds to mill around to.
This is our 7th year participating in the event. Most of the restaurants sell a tasting size of some of their signature dishes. There is everything from mini lobster rolls, to crabmeat macaroni and cheese to crepes filled with chocolate and bananas.
In keeping with what Kitchenette is all about we sell our homemade cakes, pies and cupcakes along with freshly squeezed lemonade.
Our table is an ode to the layer the cake. We have 5 varities along with colorfully iced cupcakes. Our booth is the only ones who sell these items. WE are always a little slow in getting started as people like to eat their way to dessert. Just after lunchtime it becomes like the “Day of the Loctus” at our booth, People swarm it and elbow thier way in to get their favorite chunk of cake. There is madness like you have never seen.
We often see people wait in line again after eating their piece of cake or wedge of pie in order to take a piece home.
We sold close to 900 pieces of dessert yesterday in 4 short hours. It is a blur of sugary goodness.
I have reprinted our yellow cake recipe for you all to use for a layer cake of cupcakes for your next happy occasion.
